Romanian Motorways Quarterly Review - Q2 2015

Find below a review of relevant news for each Romanian motorway project:

I. A1 MOTORWAY (Bucharest - Nadlac)

Bucharest - Pitesti: Entire length opened to traffic as of the writing of this article.

Pitesti - Sibiu: The contract for updating the feasibility study was finally signed, after some delays. It was announced that actual work on this section could start in 2016. Sibiu ringroad is opened to traffic (17.2km).

Sibiu - Orastie: Entire length opened to traffic as of the writing of this article.

Orastie - Deva: Entire length opened to traffic as of the writing of this article.

Deva - Lugoj: Works in progress, several updated images with construction works were published in the past few months. 17km of segment 1 of this section are currently open for traffic; estimated openings in 2015 are the remaining length of segment 1, 17km of segment 2 and segment 4, while the remaining length of segment 2 and segment 3 will be opened in 2016.

Lugoj - Timisoara: Works in progress on segment 2 (segment 1 already opened to traffic). Estimated opening of segment 2 in 2015.

Timisoara - Arad: Entire length opened to traffic as of the writing of this article.

Arad - Nadlac: Works continue on 11km of segment 2; opening date is 11 July 2015. The remainder of segment 2 and segment 1 are already open.

II. A3 MOTORWAY (Bucharest - Bors)

Bucharest - Ploiesti: 55.5km of this section are open to traffic. The remaining 6.5km are more challenging: the estimated opening date for 3.2km is 2016 (with works to restart this year), while the date for the remaining 3.3km is unknown (contract for this length was canceled).

Ploiesti - Brasov: Bad news for the Comarnic-Brasov section, as the contract with the selected consortium was canceled.

Brasov - Targu Mures: No news on this section with the exception of some general statements. There are no segments open or under construction on this section.

Targu Mures - Gilau: 52km on this section are opened to traffic, while for the remaining 56.5 km contracts were signed this year. No major news in the past three months.

Gilau - Bors: Some important news on this section: signing of contract to resume works on Suplacu de Barcau - Bors (estimated duration until completion: 2 years). Works continue on Gilau - Nadasel, while Gilau - Mihaiesti is being tendered. III. A10 MOTORWAY (Sebes - Turda)

Works in progress for all four segments. Completion estimated in 2016.

IV. OTHER PROJECTS

A contract for the ring road of Bacau was signed - a portion of this road overlaps the route of future A7 motorway (only one carriageway to be completed initially for this ovelapping section). No other news on other projects, with the exception of some feasibility studies and general discussion on road infrastructure strategy.

V. COMPLETED MOTORWAYS

Motorways A2: Bucharest - Constanta and A4: Constanta Ringroad are completed with entire length opened to traffic.
